Rome

Rome, Italy’s capital, is a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display.

Ancient ruins such as the Roman Forum and the Colosseum evoke the power of the former Roman Empire. Vatican City, headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, boasts St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes.

Why do you want to visit Rome?

Firstly, for the rich history and the magnificent ancient Roman architecture. There are so many famous buildings and structures within the city that it is impossible to see all of them in a trip. People stand in awe before the Colosseum, where they could almost picture the gladiators fighting and the deafening cheers from the crowd; tourists take a million photos of the marvelous Pantheon, the most well-preserved Roman building which dated way back to 126AD; the buzz at the Roman Forum, the heart of commerce and business during ancient Rome; and of course, you can fall in love with the Fontana di Trevi, the most famous and arguably the most beautiful fountain in all of Rome.

Secondly, the food… Oh, the food is amazing, and not because this is my hometown!  I will make you sample many delicious things. Pasta cacio e pepe, Pizza alla Romana, Fiori di Zucca, Crostata di ricotta – you can eat everything. From family run trattorias and pizzerias, to fancy restaurants, there are plenty of options in Rome. I will take you to some of the most amazing restaurants in the Eternal City, places that only Romans know and few tourists get to know!

Another reason to visit – even if you are not a Catholic – is Vatican City. It is one of those places that will stop you in your track. I could go on and on, but it would serve little purpose; Vatican City is a place that you must experience for yourself. Margherita, one of the best local tour guides in Rome who is also an expert archeologist will take you through a personal tour of the Vatican City which includes a visit to the famous Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. If you don’t do well with crowds, I can also book you a personal guided tour in the Vatican “after hours”.

How about me driving you to see the Roman Aqueduct, the Appian Way and the hills around Rome (Roman Castles)? Many of these are places that only the Romans know and hang out to. I will drive you around Frascati and the volcanic lakes of Castel Gandolfo (The Pope’s Summer residence) and Nemi where you can sample some the best local food and wines!
